The Toronto Blue Jays optioned reliever Jeremy Accardo to Triple-A Las Vegas yesterday, and manager Cito Gaston said utility man Joe Inglett will soon follow.
Accardo saved 30 games for the Blue Jays in 2007, but missed most of last season with forearm soreness. His demotion leaves the Blue Jays with a bullpen of B.J. Ryan, Scott Downs, Jesse Carlson, Brian Tallet, Brandon League, Jason Frasor and Shawn Camp. The same group led the major leagues last season with a 2.94 earned-run average and Gaston said he was unwilling to break them up. Accardo was the odd man out.
With Inglett heading down, Kevin Millar has secured a spot on the roster.
