Thanks to the kids, Monday night the Jays had no problem.
The kids in question are 25-year-old DH Adam Lind, who went 4-for-5 with six RBIs, and 21-year-old left fielder Travis Snider, who was 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run.
"They had a great night, like they were trying to out-do each other," Gaston said. "But it didn't surprise me what they did. I hope they can do that the rest of the season."
The fact that Lind and Snider are good friends off the field made the night that much more enjoyable for both.
"We were having a good time in the dugout," Snider said. "We have a good relationship. But six RBIs, that's really sweet to see him come up there and deliver."
BLUE JAYS 12, TIGERS 5: DH Adam Lind set a club record by driving in six runs in the opening game of the season to help the Jays to a victory over Detroit. Rookie left fielder Travis Snider added a solo homer as the Jays pounded out 15 hits. Every player in the Jays lineup had a hit. Lind also had four hits to tie the franchise record for most hits in an opening game. His six RBIs were also a personal best.
