"It's something that we have to sit down and talk with B.J. and certainly talk with J.P. (Ricciardi) and see where he's coming from," manager Cito Gaston said of Ryan's problems and whether he'll be used in the next save situation. "It looks like he's certainly having trouble with his control to me.
"I don't know if he's hurting or if he's not hurting, but we'd certainly like to see him do better than that. That's not going to get it for us. We'll sit and talk to him about it and see what he feels about what's going on out there. But his control is off."
Afterward, Ryan was there to face the music.
"You hit the first guy, walk the second guy and you're begging for trouble," Ryan said. "It was a good win by the team to really pick you up, but on my side, I was terrible. I was brutal out there -- not pitching ahead, not pitching aggressively. Making stupid pitches at a bad time. It was just a bad night."
Especially the two-out pitch to Michael Young that landed in the seats to tie it 7-7.
"You try to make a pitch and you pull it and it's something that you just can't do, shouldn't do, but you do it," he said. "It is what it is. You hate it and it's terrible."
BLUE JAYS 8, RANGERS 7 (11 innings): Kevin Millar hit a one-out single to drive in Vernon Wells from second with the winning run in the 11th inning. The Jays had a 7-4 lead entering the ninth, but closer B.J. Ryan hit a batter, walked the next, and with two runs in and two outs, gave up a solo homer to Michael Young. Rod Barajas had a pair of two-run homers for the Jays, while Alex Rios had four singles and two RBIs.
