The Jays don't know what to do about right-hander Jesse Litsch.

After a victory May 29 over Oakland, Litsch's record stood at 7-1. Since then he's gone 1-6, including the loss on Monday night.

His line for the game was 4 2/3 innings, six runs, all earned, seven hits, two walks and a strikeout.

Following the game, Litsch was more than a tad upset. Upset and lost.

"I don't know, I don't know what to do," he said, looking dazed. "Leave a ball out over the middle, they're going to hit it. That's what big-league hitters are for, that's what they do."

Manager Cito Gaston was reduced to repeating what he has said of Litsch after his last three starts.

"He made a couple of mistakes again tonight, and that was pretty much the ballgame," Gaston said. "He made a couple of mistakes tonight, and he had to pay for it.

"He hung a cutter, and the kid (Adam Jones in the fifth) hit it right out of the ballpark."

Litsch has been working between starts with coach Brad Arnsberg to find a solution. But when he needs to make a big pitch, it simply isn't there.

"It's very important to get him back on course," Arnsberg said. "They've seen him a little bit more, and he's not pitching down in the zone as much. He's not using his cutter enough, and he's got to take his cutter to both sides (of the plate), It's his pitch with the best command and the pitch that he gets ahead in counts with.

"He's got to get that back to his No. 1 pitch. Lately he's been trying to throw his sinker early in counts, and he's falling behind. His sinker's really good now, but it's a strike-to-ball pitch (dropping out of the zone), and it needs to be a strike-to-strike pitch. Getting ahead in counts is key to him."

It's key for the Jays, too, who have right-hander Dustin McGowan on the DL.

BLUE JAYS 10, ORIOLES 8: LF Adam Lind had four hits and three RBI and SS John McDonald drove in four runs to lead the Jays to their comeback victory. CF Alex Rios aided the cause with a solo home run, his second in his last three games. RHP Shawn Marcum came off the disabled list and started for the first time since June 18. Marcum allowed a season-high six runs and tied his career high by giving up three home runs.
