Toronto Blue Jays Inside Pitch 2008-09-01

Toronto Blue Jays Inside Pitch 2008-09-01
Brandon League was on the mound when the game ended in Sunday's 6-2 triumph over New York.

It could become commonplace in 2009.

League, who missed almost all of the 2007 season due to problems located in the muscles of his right shoulder, is completely healed from those difficulties and is back throwing free and easy.

He's back to throwing in the high 90s and every once in a while, he hits 100 mph on the gun.

League has good sink on his fastball and also throws a slider and split finger fastball -- all for strikes -- which makes him a difficult proposition for the opposition.

League's development could have a ripple effect into the off-season, where the Jays may be tempted to see what closer B.J. Ryan, who has two years and $20 million remaining on his contract, could bring via a trade.

League could then be moved into the closer's role, a situation for which he is being groomed.

BLUE JAYS 6, YANKEES 2 -- The Jays took the rubber match of the series to win two of three from the Yankees. Roy Halladay went seven innings for the win to move to 17-9. Halladay allowed solo homers to Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi. Scott Rolen hit a solo homer for the Jays while David Eckstein and Vernon Wells each contributed two RBIs.
