Toronto Blue Jays Notes, Quotes 2009-04-22
--LHP Scott Downs has yet to give up a run this season in seven appearances, and one of his biggest fans is his fellow reliever, closer B.J. Ryan. "Words can't describe what he brings to this team, and to our bullpen and our whole pitching staff," Ryan said. "He answers the bell every day. He never says no. He pitches an inning, two innings at a time. (Those are) the guys you have to have on your team, guys who go out there and battle and grind, and I don't think he gets the credit he deserves."

--Heading into Tuesday night's game, the Jays had recorded 33 RBIs from the seventh inning on to lead the major leagues. Last year, the Jays ranked 29th in that category, finishing with 186 RBIs from the seventh inning on.

--The Jays have won four consecutive series of three games or more to start a season for the first time in club history. The Jays' club record for winning consecutive series to start a season is six, set in 2001. That record includes winning a series in Texas 1-0 due to inclement weather.

BY THE NUMBERS: 10 -- Walks LHP David Purcey issued in his last two starts through April 19.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I think they pull for each other. You see them in the dugout, when one does something good, the other one is there. It's not too often you get to play with somebody you came through the minor leagues with. I think it's all a plus." -- Manager Cito Gaston on the bond between DH Adam Lind and rookie LF Travis Snider.
