Toronto Blue Jays Notes, Quotes 2009-04-23
--DH Adam Lind has more time on his hands than he knows what to do with. Many of the older DHs have a routine between their at-bats. Some ride the bike, others study film. So what's Lind's routine? "I don't have one yet unless you count just sitting there (in the dugout)," Lind said Wednesday. "It just feels weird for me not to be in the dugout."

Lind, who has played just one game in left field, would like to see a little more game action but knows that for the most part, he's the full-time DH. "If I start to struggle, I may get put out there," he said of getting more starts in the outfield. "But things are good now, so there's no reason to change things up."

--Umpire Todd Tichenor worked third base Wednesday night in place of injured Kerwin Danley. Danley was the plate umpire Tuesday and was struck in the helmet with Hank Blalock's broken bat and left the field on a golf cart. Crew chief Dana DeMuth said Wednesday night that Danley never lost consciousness and was released from hospital 20 minutes after arriving. "He still has some headaches, so they won't let him travel," DeMuth said. "Soon as his headaches clear, he'll fly to Arizona where our medical center is for some tests." Tichenor was working a Class AAA game at Des Moines, Iowa, when he received the emergency call.

--One of LHP Scott Downs' biggest fans is his fellow reliever, closer B.J. Ryan. "Words can't describe what he brings to this team, and to our bullpen and our whole pitching staff," Ryan said. "He answers the bell every day. He never says no. He pitches an inning, two innings at a time. (Those are) the guys you have to have on your team, guys who go out there and battle and grind, and I don't think he gets the credit he deserves."

BY THE NUMBERS: 10 -- Walks LHP David Purcey issued in his last two starts through April 19.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I think they pull for each other. You see them in the dugout, when one does something good, the other one is there. It's not too often you get to play with somebody you came through the minor leagues with. I think it's all a plus." -- Manager Cito Gaston on the bond between DH Adam Lind and rookie LF Travis Snider.
