--LHP John Parrish allowed one run on four hits over six innings in picking up the win on Saturday against the Braves filling in for injured RHP Shawn Marcum. It was his first major league start since July 7, 2004 and his first win as a starter since Aug. 17, 2000. His last major league win, in relief, occurred May 19, 2007. It was the first time that the Jays had received a win by a left-handed starter since April 17, 2007 (Gustavo Chacin).
--INF Joe Inglett, who has received most of the starts at second base in the absence of Aaron Hill, went 7-for-20 (.350), over the homestand. He played in five of the six games.
--The Blue Jays are finally getting some good news regarding injured 2B Aaron Hill, who is recovering from post-concussion syndrome. Hill has not played since colliding with shortstop David Eckstein in a game on May 29. After being checked out at the University of Pittsburgh last weekend, a two-week period of inactivity was recommended. Hill was even told not to show up at Rogers Centre. Although it hasn't yet been a full two weeks, general manager J.P. Ricciardi said that Hill is showing improvement.
"He's starting to feel a little better," Ricciardi said. "His head is starting to clear up (no signs of dizziness, fuzziness or headaches). Hopefully, he'll be able to go to Florida (Class A Dunedin) on Monday and begin some player activity. We will monitor him closely and once we feel that he's ready, we'll get him into some games."
BY THE NUMBERS: 26 -- Consecutive innings without allowing an earned run by LHP Scott Downs. The Jays' club record is 41 innings set by RHP Roy Halladay in 2004.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "The second half brings something different for everyone. We'll see what happens from now." -- Manager Cito Gaston, on the team's fortunes going forward.
