Toronto Blue Jays Notes, Quotes 2008-07-04
--RHP A.J. Burnett, who will make the start Friday against the Angels, is 2-0 with a 0.60 ERA and 18 strikeouts in his last two starts.

--If the Jays are to reach manager Cito Gaston's goal of being a .500 team by the All-Star break, they will have to go 7-2 over their remaining nine games. After losing their last two games, the Jays are 41-45. "If we don't get to .500, we'll just keep chugging along," Gaston said. "Hopefully we can pick it up down in Anaheim."

--LHP Scott Downs' consecutive-inning scoreless streak ended at 26 when he allowed two earned runs in Tuesday's loss. It marked just the fourth time in 37 appearances this season that Downs has allowed any runs.

--The Jays are 19-26 on the road this season and have lost 11 of their past 14 games on the road. They have not won a series on the road since winning a three-game series in Oakland May 27-29.

--CF Vernon Wells went 0-for-3 Wednesday to end a four-game hitting streak where he had gone 8-for-18. In 22 games since returning from the disabled list, Wells is hitting .311 (28-for-90) with three home runs and 13 RBIs.

BY THE NUMBERS: 26 -- Consecutive innings without allowing an earned run by LHP Scott Downs, through June 29. The Jays' club record is 41 innings, set by RHP Roy Halladay in 2004.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "The second half brings something different for everyone. We'll see what happens from now." -- Manager Cito Gaston, on the team's fortunes going forward.
