--Reports say the Jays completed their trade of DH Matt Stairs, sending him to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor league LHP Fabio Castro. On Thursday, the Jays designated Stairs for assignment as they were heavily involved in trade discussions with the Phillies. To replace Stairs, 40, the Jays called up OF Travis Snider, 20, from Class AAA Syracuse. Stairs gives the Phillies a left-handed bat off the bench to replace the injured Geoff Jenkins.
--RHP A.J. Burnett allowed two runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out eight in his complete game loss. The defeat snapped his win streak at six games. It also marked his first loss to the Yankees this season in four starts. --OF Travis Snider was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored in his major league debut Friday. Snider, 20, the Jays' first-round draft pick in 2006, was brought up from Class AAA Syracuse after the Jays designated DH Matt Stairs for assignment following Thursday's game.
--The Jays have now gone a season-high 10 straight games (89.0 innings) without committing an error. They have not gone more than 10 consecutive games without committing an error since Aug. 19-29, 1986 (11 games).
--The Jays had their record slip to 19-28 in one-run decisions (6-18 on the road) after dropping Friday night's contest versus the Yankees by a score of 2-1. They have now lost four straight one-run contests. The Jays have been involved in 47 one-run contests this season, which ranks as the most in the majors.
BY THE NUMBERS: 10 -- Shutouts the Jays had registered through Aug. 24, the most they'd had since they recorded 11 in 2004.
