Toronto Blue Jays Notes, Quotes 2008-09-01
--SS David Eckstein ended his season with the Jays in style as he went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs in Toronto's 6-2 victory. Following the game, Eckstein, the subject of trade rumors, was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for minor league RHP Chad Beck. "David was a class act," manager Cito Gaston said. In 76 games, Eckstein, who has played sparingly since Gaston took over, hit .277 with one homer and 23 RBIs.

--With the win Sunday, the Jays ended their record at historic Yankee Stadium with 100 victories. For the Jays, who went 100-124 overall, it is the most wins at any stadium away from home.

--The Jays didn't make an error in Sunday's game and now have gone 12 consecutive games without an error, setting a club record. The Jays have made just 65 errors this season, tops in the league.

--CF Vernon Wells hit his 15th homer Saturday, and in 19 games since being activated from the disabled list, he is batting .338 (25-for-74) with four doubles, six homers, 20 RBIs, seven walks and 14 runs scored.

--Down 6-5 in the eighth, CF Vernon Wells and LF Adam Lind opened with singles. 1B Lyle Overbay then dropped his first sacrifice bunt since 2005 to move a pair of runners up. Both came around to score. It was just the second sacrifice bunt for Overbay in his career.

BY THE NUMBERS: 100 -- The speed in miles per hour on a fastball by Jays reliever Brandon League in the seventh inning Saturday against the Yankees. League, who missed almost all of 2007 with muscle issues in his back, has been dominating the past month.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I enjoyed my time (as a Jay) and the fans were unbelievable. The organization was unbelievable and I had a blast there. I'll look forward to going back there (Rogers Centre) for the WBC (World Baseball Classic), that's for sure." -- Veteran Canadian DH Matt Stairs, who was traded to the Phillies.
