--LHP Ricky Romero, on the disabled list with a strained right oblique, threw on flat ground for the third consecutive day Wednesday. Pitching coach Brad Arnsberg said Romero will throw on flat ground for two more days with the distance increasing to 120 feet before he throws off the mound. Romero is eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday.
--LHP B.J. Ryan, despite positive reports regarding his MRI, will not attempt to throw for another week. Ryan is on the disabled list with left trapezius tightness. "They are going to give him seven days of no-throw," pitching coach Brad Arnsberg said. "They just want to let it tame itself down, and then we'll go back to the drawing board."
--RHP Shaun Marcum, recovering from Tommy John ligament-transfer surgery, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Thursday. Marcum, who is ahead of schedule with his recovery, will throw 35 pitches.
--3B Scott Rolen went 1-for-4 to extend his hit streak to seven games (10-for-27). In 13 games on the road this season, Rolen is hitting a robust .353 (18-for-51).
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Casey Janssen (right labrum surgery in March 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He missed all of last season. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Dunedin on April 27, and he could be back with the Blue Jays in mid-May.
LHP B.J. Ryan (left trapezius tightness) went on the 15-day disabled list April 23. He will need a rehab assignment before returning to the Blue Jays.
LHP Ricky Romero (strained right oblique muscle) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 20.
C Michael Barrett (torn right shoulder muscle) went on the 15-day disabled list April 18.
RHP Jesse Litsch (strained right forearm) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Litsch experienced discomfort while throwing on April 25.
RHP Dustin McGowan (right shoulder surgery in July 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. Initially, he was expected to be able to contribute by mid-June 2009 at the latest, but it appears that a late-July date is a best-case scenario.
RHP Shawn Marcum (Tommy John elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. Initially, the Blue Jays didn't expect him back until 2010. Now they say he could be back by August.
