--LHP Bill Murphy entered the game having allowed just one hit on one run -- a solo home run -- in seven appearances (9 1/3 innings) this season. In the fifth inning, though, Murphy allowed two runs on three hits.
--2B Aaron Hill fouled a ball off his left shin in the third inning and, after the fourth inning, was removed from the game and replaced by John McDonald. After the game, Hill said he should be able to play Thursday. --RHP Casey Janssen, recovering from shoulder problems, allowed one run on four hits, walked one and struck out five in his rehab start Tuesday night for Class AA New Hampshire. It was Janssen's fourth rehab start; the other three were at Class A Dunedin. Overall, Janssen has allowed two earned runs in 18 innings in his rehab program.
--LHP Brian Tallet, thrust into a starting role because of the forearm injury to Jesse Litsch, will make his sixth consecutive start Thursday against the Yankees. In four of his five starts, Tallet has allowed a total five earned runs over 25 innings for a 1.80 ERA. Tallet is 2-1 as a starter and has lasted seven innings in each of his last two starts.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Casey Janssen (right labrum surgery in March 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He missed all of last season. He began a minor league rehab assignment April 27, and he could be back with the Blue Jays in mid-May.
LHP Ricky Romero (strained right oblique muscle) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 20. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Dunedin on May 8, and he pitched for Class AA New Hampshire on May 13.
LHP B.J. Ryan (left trapezius tightness) went on the 15-day disabled list April 23. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Dunedin on May 7, and he could return to the Blue Jays in mid-May.
C Michael Barrett (torn right shoulder muscle) went on the 15-day disabled list April 18.
RHP Jesse Litsch (strained right forearm) went on the 15-day disabled list April 14. He experienced discomfort while throwing on April 25, pushing his possible return into June.
RHP Dustin McGowan (right shoulder surgery in July 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. Initially, he was expected to be able to contribute by mid-June 2009 at the latest, but it appears that a late-July date is a best-case scenario.
RHP Shawn Marcum (Tommy John elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He might be able to return in August.
