WHITE SOX TO TRADE VAZQUEZ

WHITE SOX TO TRADE VAZQUEZ
Javier Vazquez is likely headed from the Chicago White Sox to the Atlanta Braves in a multiplayer trade.

The teams reached a tentative agreement yesterday that would send the 32-year-old pitcher to Atlanta, two people familiar with the deal said. The trade had not been finalized.

That could happen today. Vazquez must take a physical for the deal to be completed and he was likely to be examined today.

It was unclear who the Braves would send to Chicago in exchange for Vazquez. The right-hander was 12-16 with a 4.67 ERA in 33 starts this season.

Mets

Citi Field will remain the name of the New York Mets' new ballpark after a government bailout the team believes will help the struggling bank survive its economic crisis. Citigroup agreed in 2006 to pay the Mets $400 million over 20 years for naming rights to the stadium, scheduled to open next year.

Blue Jays

Ted Rogers, owner of the Blue Jays, died at his home yesterday in Toronto. He was 75. The founder of Rogers Communications Inc., Canada's largest cable television and mobile phone company, was treated in October for an existing heart condition. Rogers Communications owns the Blue Jays and their home at the Rogers Centre.

Astros

Pitcher Doug Brocail is staying with Houston, agreeing to a $2.75 million, one-year contract.
